Hot Check Court Division:
The Second Division of the 20th Judicial District is the “Hot Check” Division. All hot check violations that are filed in the Circuit Court are prosecuted in the Second Division.
Judge Maggio and Prosecutor Marcus Vaden did design the Hot Check Division in an effort to collect and return more restitution to the merchants that have suffered a loss as a result of a hot check. Since the collaborative effort began in January 2001, the amount of money returned to the merchants has dramatically increased every year. That amount exceeds several million dollars. The amount of fines and fees that have been collected and returned to the various county general and sheriff funds exceed over 250,000.00 dollars.
The Hot Check division has become a very efficient and effective division of the 20th Judicial District. By only having one point of contact with the Court system the merchant, the prosecutor, the sheriff and the defendant are aware of the status of their case.
In short, the re-alignment of the prosecution of the Hot Check violations started by Judge Maggio and Prosecutor Marcus Vaden has a dramatic impact on hot checks, fines and fees collections.
